Submission Guidelines

Shakir Publishing is interested in unique and unorthodox projects focusing on urban life and social issues from any and all cultural and ethnic perspective. We are currently not accepting poetry or plays.

All submissions must meet the following criteria:

Fiction

• Cover letter
• Brief synopsis
• Name, genre, contact info (phone number, email) on cover/title page
• First five chapters: typed double-spaced, 12pt Time Romans or Arial font
• Book title/author’s name, page number on top of each page

Non-Fiction

• Cover letter/Query
• Detailed outline of books content, author’s relevance and connection to content.
• Name, contact info (phone number, email) on cover/title page
• Five sample chapters:  typed double-spaced, 12pt Time Romans or Arial font
• Book title/author’s name, page # on each page

Send emails to submissions@shakirpublishing.com. Include a cover letter and attach all other documents as attachments. File name should be in subject line: Book Title/Author’s Name (i.e. Land of No Pity/T-Shakir)

Please do not send full manuscript unless it is requested. All unrequested manuscripts will be discarded. If we are interested in your project, we will contact you. If you do not hear from us, it means your project doesn’t fit what we are currently interested in.

We are under no obligation to return material submitted, so please do not send anything you want returned.
We accept and encourage submissions from incarcerated writers. Please send your submissions typed and edited. If unable to email submission, postal mail to our mailing address.
